Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Illinois (RMHCCI) provides a supportive place for families to stay while their child is receiving medical care.
The Peoria Ronald McDonald House opened in 2019 and since then, we've served hundreds of families while their children receive medical care in Peoria. RMHCCI was established in 1986 when we opened a Ronald McDonald House in Springfield. Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Illinois is part of a Global network of more than 375 Houses in 62 countries and regions.
In 2022, RMHCCI provided 8,231 nights of care to 437 families. The Peoria House provides 22 private guest rooms (mini suites) with bathrooms--free of charge--to families whose children are receiving medical care in Peoria. On average, families stay with us for about 14 days, but a family can stay with us for as long as their child is receiving care--and sometimes, that can be several months. Meals are provided and families have access to a kitchen and a basic pantry if they would like to make their own meals. Families use a free laundry room on the guest floors. Families enjoy a garden and outdoor play area where they can relax and have fun together. The House is located just blocks from Peoria's medical facilities and a shuttle service comes right to our front door.
There are many ways volunteers can support the mission of RMHCCI at the Peoria House. We are located in downtown Peoria but have a free private parking lot across the street from the House.
Volunteers can tackle one-time projects on a specific day or they can work closely with staff on a more permanent basis. While all volunteer opportunities directly impact our ability to host families, volunteers may or may not interact with our families.
One-time volunteer opportunities include: preparing meals, sorting in-kind donations, light cleaning, assisting with celebrations like holidays and birthdays, helping to maintain the building and minor repairs, landscaping, and supporting staff at special events.
Longer-term volunteer opportunities are more consistent (at least twice a month) and include: hosting front desk, preparing meals, hosting volunteer groups in the kitchen, laundering linens, light cleaning, supporting special event planning, and maintaining guest rooms.
