Gimme Shelter - A Night to End Homelessness Registration and Hospitality Volunteers

Expired

Description

On any night in our community, hundreds of men, women and children do not spend the night in their own homes.  They stay with friends and relatives, in shelters, abandoned buildings, tents and cars.  Many sleep outside - seeking whatever shelter they can find.   The pandemic has been devastating for those without homes.

Gimme Shelter is an event hosted by Phoenix Community Development Services raise awareness of the challenges faced by those in our community without homes and to give our citizens an opportunity to help end homelessness in Central Illinois.   On Friday, February 25, community members will spend the night outside in a cardboard box or a motor vehicle - from 6:00 pm in the evening until 6:00 am the following morning. Gimme Shelter will bring the community together to experience just a taste of what it is like to have no home.

Proceeds from Gimme Shelter will benefit Phoenix Community Development Services’ efforts to provide supportive housing and outreach services to the area’s homeless population.

Volunteers are needed to assist with event registration and participant hospitality.
